It’s been a long time since I last posted. I’m still here, just not motivated to post much. Lately all my time and energy have been taken up by family and by trying to educate myself, finally, in the fine art of financial management.
It seems I woke up one day a few weeks ago and realized that I’m 35 years old with a family of 5 and my financial life is a mess. I don’t know about anyone else out there, but I was never really taught anything about how to manage my money. When I was a teenager I had a couple of jobs, I was always broke, and I had no idea where my money went. I had no idea about budgets or even keeping track of spending in a register. I never had a class, never spoke to my parents about it, never really even thought about it - I just accepted the idea that, unless you were wealthy or lucky, money was a thing that you always struggled with.
I’m finally waking up and realizing that money is a tool, and just like any tool it can be used well or foolishly. Had money been a tablesaw, I’d have lost a few fingers by now! Hopefully my family and I will come out of this with all our limbs still intact and a little more peace in this area.
As a reference point, I’m using Crown.org’s Money Map, and reading Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover. From what I’ve read so far I would heartily recommend either or both.
Owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another.
