Maybe it’s because they are the biggest fish in the pond, but it seems that the battle between fundamentalist and emerging is really hitting hard in the Southern Baptist denomination. An article in today’s St. Louis Post Dispatch really makes the point well:
One of the problems though, is that the idea that the “emerging church” is somehow a unified movement is completely off-base. The emerging church is a loose network at best and just a label that is slapped on any church that doesn’t fit a well-defined box at worst. Is The Journey or the Acts 29 network of churches really “emergent”? If I’m not mistaken there are those that are a part of the Acts 29 network that would dispute that – Mark Driscoll, the founder of the network being one of them.
