Quick Template Update - Shelfari

Ron | August 27, 2007

I’ve just added a Shelfari bookshelf in the left sidebar. Anyone that has visited here over the past couple of years may remember that I had a LibraryThing widget there in the past. This is the same idea, though from what I can tell it is not quite as robust. I do however like the cleanliness of Shelfari a little better, it doesn’t feel as cluttered.

Just trying it out and I haven’t gotten all of my books entered yet. One thing I do wish is that it had a batch upload option.

UPDATE: I was wrong - there is a very slick import tool that I used to import all of my books from LibraryThing. I’ll keep both updated for a while and see which I prefer.

Up in Smoke?

Ron | August 23, 2007
A.N. Wilson wonders at the connection between the great English writers and tobacco. And then wonders if the British smoking ban is a harbinger of the end of great English writers.

Longing

Ron | August 22, 2007

I long for a stark, hard beauty that leaves me panting for breath, a beauty that sears the mind. I am looking for a beauty that brings laughter and tears and awesome, stunned silence.

All things are wearisome;
Man is not able to tell it.
The eye is not satisfied with seeing,
Nor is the ear filled with hearing.

I long for truth. Not mere facts, not 2+2 or what the Nightly News says, but Truth in all it’s glaring, blinding, incomprehensible mystery. That truth which brings kings, philosophers and beggars alike to their knees in the trembling, awful realization that we are but dust.

Pilate said to him, “What is truth?”

I long to be overwhelmed to be caught up and tossed about in a wild flailing dance with grace, mercy, goodness and love.

But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

But I am afraid.

Who Am I?

My name is Ron Nelson. I am a husband to a wonderful wife and a father to 3 amazing children. I am a follower of Jesus. I am a member of a wonderfully flawed, redeemed, struggling, beautiful, faithful community of believers that has often supported and encouraged me in my attempts to be a good husband, father and follower of Jesus.
